Finding the little joys is easier some weeks than others, and this week’s alternating sunshine and rain has provided in abundance! Getting outdoors is so good for the soul.
We did a treasure trail in the Chiltern hills, from treasuretrails.co.uk. We love these! It took us to the Hellfire Caves in West Wycombe…
…this unusual 60s stained glass window in Bledlow Ridge…
…this quirky little church in Speen…
…and the Coombe Hill monument.
Wonderful sky!
It’s red kite country.
Mushroom spotting.
Brisket leftovers – they made the most flavoursome fajitas ever! And chilli!
Flowers from my man.
A walk in the woods. I wish I could have photographed the squawking of jays for you! It’s an ugly sound, but a beautiful and brilliant bird, so I love hearing it anyway.
These sunny rudbeckia, battered by rain but still shining!
Rosa glauca has the loveliest hips, and the red stems make them even more striking.
Common darter dragonflies around the pond.

Blasting some music and cooking up a feast for friends!
I made squash and white bean crumble. Here it is pre-crumble. Yes, I am a messy cook.
Daddy long-legs. Not on everyone’s list of little joys I’m sure, but I find invertebrates utterly blow-my-mind amazing. They’re so otherworldly and fascinating, and so vital to life on earth that it’s hard to believe we generally just ignore them. I’m pretty sure this is tipula rufina – he’s number 274 on my garden species list!
Sunshine through curtains.
The garden sparkled after a night of rain!
This pink caladium hogging all the rainbows.
