LITTLE JOYS: 14th November 2022

Because it’s not the big goals and successes in life that bring true happiness, but the little joys that you choose to notice each day.

Ominous sky to start the week!

Playing with leaves.

Just missed squashing this lil’ guy while I was weeding! If you’re not sure what’s a newt and what’s a lizard, just count the toes. Newts have four and lizards have five. It’s probably a newt if it’s in your garden!

Acer leaves in the sun. Soon they’ll all be gone. (Was that a haiku?)

Nandina berries.

Look up! Indian bean tree laden with seed pods.

Golden hour at the office.

Date night!

We went to Honest Burger and everything was perfect. My burger had truffled taleggio, honey-dijon mayo and balsamic pickles!

Walking home. The moon was full. (But these are streetlamp shadows.)

Spotted this in a window.

Beautiful mahonia in flower! It’s wonderful for bees when they venture out on mild and sunny winter days.

Treaty lunch for my rest day. Real bread, real butter, sweet caramelised onion chutney and great steak – there’s not much better!

Making a start on the last of our garden squash. It’s Crown Prince – it’s a great variety.

I used it for one of our favourite autumn comfort-food dinners: a cheesy macaroni bake with bacon, squash and rosemary, adapted from this recipe. I guess it looks kinda lurid… But it’s so good!

Stunning hesperantha in my garden.

This winter-flowering viburnum is out really early! It smells wonderful.

A late marmalade hoverfly enjoying the sunshine with me!

Pretty mushrooms.

Open mic night. What they lack in professionalism they make up for in passion and awesome stories!

Home time.
